Looking for after-school art classes in Brisbane for your child or teen? At Art Class Brisbane, we offer fun, engaging, and educational term art classes in Annerley designed for young artists aged 6–12 years and 12+ teens.

Students are mentored by professional artist Katie McErlean in her very own warm and welcoming home studio in Annerley, where creativity and confidence grow side by side.

Art Class Brisbane offers a vibrant and creative environment for young artists through our engaging after school art classes. Perfect for budding creatives, our programs also include exciting art workshops, fun-filled kids art parties, and hands-on painting classes tailored to inspire imagination and build skills. 

Whether your child is just starting out or already loves to draw and paint, our expert instructors guide them every step of the way in a supportive and encouraging space.

Ages 6–12 yrs: After-School Art Classes $77 - 8 week term commitment $616
Choose one day per week -

Monday or Thursday
4 - 5.30pm

Our kids’ art classes are tailored to primary school children and focus on:
Drawing, painting, and mixed media projects

  • Learning foundational art techniques in a fun, supportive environment

  • Boosting creativity, fine motor skills, and self-expression

  • Exploring different materials such as watercolour, acrylic, pencil, and clay

    When: Weekly classes during the school term
    Where: Annerley – Katie McErlean’s home studio
    Time: After school (times vary by age group)

Perfect for: Ages 6 to 12, all skill levels welcome. Choose one day per week

Term 4
8-Week Art Program (Ages 5 - 12 years)

Week 1
Clay Sculpture
Inspiration: Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander
Theme: Exploring Australian Artists & Mediumsceramic traditions (e.g. Thancoupie, Gloria Fletcher James)
Medium: Clay (air-dry or kiln-fired)
Focus: Hand-building basics (pinch, coil, joining, texture, pattern)
Project: Clay animal, pot, or storytelling symbol inspired by nature

Week 2
Chalk Pastels
Inspiration:
Pro Hart (vibrant outback scenes)
Medium: Chalk pastels
Focus: Blending, layering, mark-making
Project: Outback or bush landscape with bold blended colours

Week 3
Oil Pastels
Inspiration:
Ken Done (playful harbour & beach scenes)
Medium: Oil pastels
Focus: Bold colour, pattern, texture, blending & resist
Project: Beach, harbour, or garden scene in Done’s colourful style

Week 4
Graphite Drawing
Inspiration:
Brett Whiteley (expressive line drawings)
Medium: Graphite pencils & charcoal
Focus: Line quality, shading, gesture
Project: Expressive animal, bird, or figure in motion

Week 5
Watercolour
Inspiration:
Albert Namatjira (Central Australian landscapes)
Medium: Watercolours
Focus: Washes, layering, light & shadow
Project: Mountain, gum tree, or desert landscape

Week 6
Acrylic Painting
Inspiration:
Margaret Preston (native flora still lifes)
Medium: Acrylic on canvas/paper
Focus: Bold blocks of colour, composition, native plant forms
Project: Still life of Australian flowers/plants (wattle, gum leaves, banksia)

Week 7
Acrylic Narrative Painting
Inspiration:
Sidney Nolan (Ned Kelly series)
Medium: Acrylic paint
Focus: Storytelling with simplified imagery & bold colour
Project: Narrative scene (real, historical, or imagined) with bold shapes & figures

Week 8
Mixed Medium Showcase

Inspiration: John Olsen (abstract landscapes & playful linework)
Medium: Choice (graphite, pastel, paint, or mix)
Focus: Abstract expression & personal style
Project: Abstract “map” of a favourite place combining earlier techniques
